Ceres Top Pilsner has been the local beer for the citizens of the eastern part of Jutland for over 100 years. In 1953, the beer was nicknamed TOP, which it has been called ever since. A high fermentation temperature contributes to the formation of more fruity aroma components. On the other hand, there are not many hops in TOP. This results in an easy-to-drink Pilsner.

At the end of 1856, Aarhusians could read in their local newspapers that the city’s six breweries were now facing competition from a seventh named after the Roman cereal and fertility goddess “Ceres”. The new brewery was founded by a grocery and liquor merchant, M.C. Lottrup, together with two pharmacists, N.S. Aagaard and Knud Redelien. After a year, M.C. Lottrup became the sole proprietor when the two pharmacists withdrew from the joint consortium. In 1914 in the domestic market, Ceres was given the title “Supplier to the Royal Danish Court”. The Aarhus brewery had received an accolade and a good marketing detail for the years ahead. The Ceres brand is particularly prominent in the Italian market, where Ceres is the largest brand of imported beer, as is the malt product Vita Malt, which is a major brand in the Caribbean and Africa, respectively. In addition, the popular Royal series is originally from the Aarhus brewery, but today Royal Eksport is brewed at Ceres’ sister breweries, Albani and Faxe.Ceres is still strongly present in Aarhus – among other things, as the main sponsor of AGF and its home field, Ceres Park.
